Family law – Public law

Angel Chambers is committed to public law children work; our public law family team is one of the largest in Wales. We are widely recognised as leaders in this field with a large number of highly rated junior counsel appearing in many of the most serious cases across Wales.

We are regularly briefed in all forms of public law proceedings from the FPC to the High Court and appellate courts. We represent parents and children, acting through the Official Solicitor and the Family Court Advisory Service. We are regularly briefed by local authorities seeking specialist advice and representation.

We are able to provide specialist counsel at all levels of experience and seniority.

  • Cases concerning serious allegations of abuse (non-accidental injury, sexual misconduct, emotional abuse)
  • Medico legal cases – declarations on the treatment of adults under disability, life support cases, sterilisation, non-therapeutic surgery, treatment of children
  • Cases involving education issues
  • Cases involving the duties owed to children with disabilities and their carers
  • Adoption and international adoption and cross border removal
  • Injunctive relief
  • Special Guardianship

In addition to these areas we have developed significant and unique expertise in the application of Human Rights within the growing body Welsh legislation. Our team regularly act in cases involving claims for significant sums arising out of breaches of the HRA. We are experienced in representing claimants and public bodies in free-standing human rights claims and in pursuing human rights claims within existing family law or public law proceedings.
